The Popular Party defends on Tuesday in the plenary session of Congress a bill to change the system of election of members of the General Council of the Judiciary. The norm in force since 1985 establishes that the Courts have the last word in the election of the CGPJ: eight jurists of recognized prestige and 12 judges.

The system proposed by the PP through the proposed law meets three main conditions: "The members of judicial origin (12) will be elected by and among all judges and magistrates"; "The election shall be conducted by personal, equal, direct and secret vote"
