The standard will apply from summer 2024 - the new regulation poses fatal problems for beaches all over Italy. 4,000 lifeguards are missing, Italian media report.

The summer job has now lost its appeal: short employment contracts and monthly salaries (twelve hours of work) between 1,400 and 1,800 euros. New regulations aim to ensure more safety on the beach: instead of every 600 meters, a lifeguard must now be posted every 180 meters. According to criticism, the measure will inevitably lead to a gap in staff that will be difficult to fill.
