The United Nations: Iran committed crimes against humanity in suppressing the hijab protests. The protests erupted in September 2022, with the death of young Kurdish woman Mehsa Amini after she was arrested by the morality police for not wearing a hijab properly.

The report states that some of the detainees were subjected to beatings and rape, electric shocks, stripping and sexual assault, including of children. In addition, Iranian officials were found to have deliberately tortured detainees to obtain forced confessions from them and nine protesters were executed without trial and due process.
