The United States and the United Kingdom accuse Iran in the Security Council of fueling instability in the Middle East. The two permanent members of the highest UN body distance themselves from the condemnation of the rest in a call on the Damascus attack requested by Russia.

It was also an opportunity for the majority of Council members - all but the US - to try to revive resolution 2728, the first ceasefire so far in the war. Nothing was expected from the resolution beyond messages of mourning and concern, but the intervention of US vice ambassador was the anticlimax.
