The White House is giving $1.5 billion to GlobalFoundries, the largest domestic manufacturer of made-to-order semiconductors. There are 170 companies on the list to collect thanks to a 2022 law.

The projects are also expected to create about 1,500 manufacturing jobs and 9,000 construction jobs over the next decade. After falling in 2023, global semiconductor sales are projected to grow 13% in 2024. The US share in its production was 37% in 1990, but was reduced to 12% in 2020.
