Kannada is a regional language spoken by around 40 million people in the Indian state of Karnataka. The Vatican communicates in around fifty different languages and idioms.

Other non-European languages include Mongolian, Malayalam, Swili and Amharic. More than 2% of India's approximately 1.4 billion people are Christians, most of them Catholics. The language will also be used in the Vatican News, the official news agency of the Holy See, and on Vatican Radio.
