The world price of cocoa skyrockets and takes away space from illegal coca cultivation in Colombia. The climate emergency affects the harvests of large African producers and the international price of grain rises by more than 150% compared to the amount paid in January 2023.

Cocoa is also a strategic sector for regions and rural areas with violence problems, where the Government has promoted plans to help former coca workers transition to cocoa production. “The State policy seems to be giving results in some areas,” says cocoa farmer Pablo Emilio Ome.
