Construction of a thermal hall for 50 refugees began in Wildsteig at the end of 2023. The emergency shelter is not yet occupied, but the residential units, each consisting of four places, are expected to fill up soon.
The accommodation for the refugees in the facility is not permanent, but for a maximum of a few weeks or months. The next bus with refugees will arrive in the district in two weeks, said Bernhard Pössinger from the Asylum and Integration Contact Point. The visitors were also concerned with the question of whether the refugees would be allowed to work. Only for the state government's integration officer, Karl Straub, there are no restrictions from the start. “Work is the best way of integration,” said Straub.
