World Athletics plans to replace the take-off board with an area with a larger surface area. The idea is to increase the show, because in the last World Cup a third of the jumps were invalid.

The modification will be tested this year in low-profile tournaments and if successful it would reach elite meetings in 2026, with a view to the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Carl Lewis, Olympic champion in Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, was very critical of the proposal.
