The official cause of death for Trey Major Harris, an 8-year-old Kentucky boy, was reported by the Hopkins County Coroner. At the time of his death, Trey's family told the Madisonville Police Department that he had developed a rash after eating strawberries during his school fundraiser.

When the rash appeared, Trey took Benadryl and a bath to relieve the symptoms. When he did not improve, his family took him to the emergency room, but he was not admitted and returned home. Trey changed into his pajamas to sleep and when the family went to wake him up for school on March 15, he was unresponsive and not breathing. His obituary described him as “a fun-loving boy who loved playing pranks” and “he will be forever missed by his loving mom, Whitney Person.” Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is one of the leading causes of overdoses in the United States.
