There are 269 "political prisoners" in Venezuela, according to the NGO Foro Penal. Pressure is growing on the government of Nicolás Maduro due to the persecution of opponents.
The disqualified leader María Corina Machado warned that they could arrest her. Of the total number of “political prisoners” counted, 249 are men and 20 are women, mostly members or former members “of the military sector” of which 9,000 have been released but remain “with precautionary measures”
