Jaremy Smith, 33, was arrested after a shootout with Bernalillo County deputies. Officer Justin Hare, 35, was shot and killed on a highway near the small town of Tucumcari last week.
The man is also considered of interest in a homicide in South Carolina. Smith is in a hospital receiving treatment for his injuries under police surveillance, according to John Allen, sheriff of Bernalillos County, New Mexico. The suspect was missing for two days before he was captured.
