Thierry Coville is a researcher at the Institute of International and Strategic Relations (IRIS) Iran has launched more than 200 missiles and drones against Israel. Coville: This attack is not a surprise.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has said in recent days that the attack attributed to Israel against the Iranian consulate in Damascus cannot go unpunished. The Islamic Republic of Iran, since its creation, has always sought to avoid direct confrontation with Israel and the United States, says Coville. The Iranian regime directly attacked Israel by sending more than200 drones and missiles which were 99% intercepted, the Israeli army announced overnight from Saturday to Sunday. Iran justified its attack "on the basis of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter relating to self-defense" citing Israel's "aggression" against the Iran consulate in Syria. The attack was carried out in response to Israel's alleged attack on the Iranian embassy in Beirut and the Iranian Embassy in Damascus. The attacks were carried out on Saturday and Sunday.
