The Madrid City Council launched the promotion in November with the aim of sponsoring 10,000 copies per year. In five months only 350 copies have been completed.

A virtual map had been enabled showing the 1.7 million trees that are in charge of the City Council – including those felled – so that parents could adopt them on behalf of their children. "This certificate emotionally links the baby with the chosen tree, although it does not imply any right over the specimen, which is part of Madrid's natural heritage," the Council states. The construction of Madrid Río involves the felling of 250 individuals at one end of a park and all of them, despite that, can be adopted despite that they can't be used for construction. The Morenos' godson was at the end of 16 shade trees. The fence that encloses the works fell just after tree number 12, everything that remained on that side was cut down. Those who remained on the other side carry signs with the message “We are saved thanks to neighborhood action.”
