This law tries to allow workers to ignore their bosses outside of working hours. The first bill in the United States on the "right to disconnect" would allow calls and messages to be ignored after hours, although it provides for some exceptions.

The California Chamber of Commerce maintains, however, that the bill is a step backwards for flexibility, and fails to take into account the state's long-standing laws on hours worked and compensation. The bill makes exceptions for emergencies, schedule adjustments, and collective bargaining.
