Johanna Mendoza had "strange" symptoms appear in her wrists and belly, but she attributed it to something she had eaten. When she returned home, she was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) She was told that she needed a stem cell transplant to combat the disease.

"It was totally terrifying," she said of learning the diagnosis. "We found one very quickly, which was surprising,” she said, “I thought it was going to be longer.”
