Piedmont Governor Alberto Cirio and Turin Mayor Stefano Lo Russo joined thousands of trade-union members and students in a march on Friday. The marchers included workers from Stellantis car factories in other parts of Italy and employees of other firms in the autosector.
The major unions in the sector all also called an eight-hour strike, the first time they have staged a unified protest in 15 years. The protestors carried a banner reading "Turin's Revival StartsFrom Mirafiori" and demanded new investment in the historic Mirafiorsi car plant, which is still the "beatingheart" of the Franco-Italo-USmanufacturer, Carlo Tavares recently said. The march took place in Turin's historic center, in the heart of the Piedmont region, in front of a crowd of thousands of students and workers from the city's schools and universities. The march was led by the mayor of Turin, who was accompanied by Cirio, the governor and the city mayor.
