MEP Valérie Hayer has been named leader of the presidential majority. At 37, this MEP, unknown to the general public, is tasked by her camp with catching up with the lead taken in the polls by the National Rally.

Despite the European commitment carried by the majority parties, this election seems to be off to a bad start for Emmanuel Macron's supporters who are between 8 and 12 points behind Jordan Bardella. Neither the current number two in the government, Bruno Le Maire, nor the heavyweights and former ministers Jean-Yves Le Drian or Julien Denormandie have agreed to take up the gauntlet.
