The armed suspect remains barricaded inside the property, continuing to shoot at those who were there, according to local authorities. Several blocks, streets and schools in the area have been closed. The incident comes as the District of Columbia is battling a sharp rise in violent crime, which rose 39% in 2023, largely driven by an increase in homicides and robberies.
