The world marathon record holder died in a car accident in Kenya on Sunday. The 24-year-old had set a new record of 2h00m35 in the Chicago Marathon in October.

He was aiming to break the 2h01m09 mark in the 2024 Paris marathon. He won the first half-marathon of his career in Valencia in December 2013 in a time of 2:01:02. He had been training for the full marathon, which is scheduled to take place in 2028.
