Holzkirchen, Miesbach and Tegernsee have three high schools in the district. For children and parents, the decision between the schools often makes a big difference.

In 2020, the high school rejected students from Valley and Warngau for the first time. This year too, parents could again be confronted with the issue of their dream school not being fulfilled, headmaster Axel Kisters says. How many registrations the school will receive this year cannot be predicted in advance, he adds. The school does not decide alone who is accepted, emphasizes Kisters. The selection is initially made based on proximity to home - but always in consultation with the school inspectorate and the ministerial representative. The district is also involved, according to Kisters, and students who only move after they have registered, who already have siblings at school or who are considered hardship cases are also taken into account. The sticking point is the spatial situation, which Kisters describes as “still very tense”
