Workers renovating part of the Parliament in The Hague came across a box containing documents almost a hundred years old. Mayor Jan van Zanen ceremoniously opened the capsule to reveal its contents: letters, documents and books.

The books are a three-volume account in French of William II's battles, including the 1815 Battle of Waterloo against Napoleon. The city plans to continue the tradition by installing its own time capsule when the statue is replaced in 2028, the mayor said. He will respect the will of the people but said his preference would be to fill the box with “text and some images from today, text on the renovation and a coin (...) one euro for example”
