Emmanuel Macron pays tribute to Guadeloupean writer Maryse Condé. Condé was one of the great voices of French-speaking literature.

She explored in her novels, her theater and her essays the history of Africa and its diaspora. This national tribute brought together many members of the government, including Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and the Minister Delegate for Overseas Territories, Marie Guévenoux. It was held at the Bibliothèque nationale de France Richelieu in Paris, on the eve of Condé's 90th birthday. The author died at the age of 90 on November 14. She is survived by her husband, two children and a son. She was married to the French politician Jean-Michel Côté, who was also a writer, until his death on November 16, 2013. The couple had a son, Nicolas, who is now in the U.S., and a daughter, Aline, who lives in France.
