A glimmer of hope emerged on Friday. The Palestinian Islamist movement, which has until now demanded a definitive ceasefire from Israel before any agreement on the hostages held in Gaza, has said it is ready for a six-week truce. It would involve the release of 42 women, children, elderly and sick people kidnapped on October 7, in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held by the Jewish state.
