Two black holes collided so hard that they disrupted the space-time continuum. Never before has a human being been able to observe such a process.

This is the first sighting of a medium-sized black hole formed by a merger. It is 142 times larger than the Sun. The fusion signal from the collision only lasted a tenth of a second. The effects of the collision can also be detected here on Earth. The space- time continuum expanded due to the released energy, collapsed and vibrated, creating gravitational waves.
