French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu spoke on the telephone on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart Sergei Choïgu. The two capitals published a completely divergent account of this conversation.

This exchange was requested by Paris on the question of counter-terrorism after the attack on March 22 near Moscow (at least 144 dead and 360 injured), claimed by the Islamic State (IS) organization. On the attack, Paris and Moscow offered an opposing reading. The Kremlin admitted that “radical Islamists” had been behind the attack.
