Ukraine: Russia attacks Avdiivka “with very significant forces”. Located in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, this city has suffered Russian attacks for months.
The city briefly fell in July 2014 to pro-Russian separatists armed by Moscow. It is today largely destroyed and its strategic value is very limited, but it is a symbol of Ukrainian resistance. But kyiv's forces have been on the defensive since the fall on most of the front and say they need increased Western support in arms and ammunition.
