Ukrainian parliament has passed a controversial mobilization law. The law mainly tightens the rules for registering conscripts.

All men of military age between 18 and 60 are obliged to carry their military passport with them during the current martial law period. The final text does not include the right for soldiers to terminate their service after three years. However, it was previously indicated that a separate law would be passed for this purpose.. Since the beginning of the war, the public prosecutor's office has initiated over 46,000 cases of desertion and unauthorized removal from the troops, and the trend is increasing rapidly. More than a quarter of this will occur in the first quarter of 2024. Despite the ban on conscriptions leaving the country, tens of thousands have fled across the green border abroad with forged documents. In the country itself, more than 70,000 people are wanted in the Poltava, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions alone. Together, the army, national guard and border guard have well over a million women and men under arms.
