A wood-destroying fungus and moisture caused damage to the Oberammergau parish church. The project was finally pushed forward in autumn 2023.

Work began in January under the construction management of the art department of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. The church was built in the 18th century from quarry stone without a foundation. The old Lavabo, “a beautiful wash basin”, will take its place there. It was once shut down and is due to be put back into operation. The clergyman is pleased that the art-historically significant and well-preserved ensemble will be preserved for future generations. Around 30,000 euros in grants will be paid for the restoration of the wooden parts of the church. But the caretaker predicts that the amount will “certainly be exceeded,” with around 98,900 euros in total. The restoration of St. Peter and Paul is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
