Ruth Gottesman, 93, donated a billion dollars to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, located in the Bronx, New York. She decided that this donation would be dedicated to covering the tuition costs of all future students.

This donation is among the largest ever made to an educational institution in the United States, and quite possibly the largest to a medical school. Many students finish their studies with debts often exceeding $200,000. The donation is intended for a medical facility in theBronx, the poorest borough in New York City.
