American Defense Minister Lloyd Austin is recovering well from a procedure under general anesthesia, doctors say. The Pentagon chief was admitted to an intensive care unit on Sunday for a bladder problem.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks has assumed the role of head of the Pentagon. Lloyd Austin's state of health is under scrutiny after several recent hospitalizations kept secret for prostate cancer. These had created controversy to the point that the Pentagon had launched an investigation into these hospital admissions which had not reached the ears of Joe Biden.
