Casey Rivara, 41, got out of the car in Rocklin, a small town in California, and after achieving his goal was hit by a car driven by a 17-year-old girl. The man tried to guide them while those present applauded him for his gesture, according to a boy, 12, who witnessed the event.

The Rivara family issued a statement expressing appreciation for the messages of support received. The young woman did not flee, but remained at the scene and "is unlikely to face criminal charges," said a police captain.
