France Insoumise (LFI) will table a bill aimed at integrating the notion of consent into the criminal definition of the offenses of sexual assault and rape. LFI parliamentarians wish to modify the article of the Penal Code which defines rape by adding the term “consent” Last week, Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti called for “caution” in the face of calls for a review of the criminaldefinition of rape in France.
“Is it the role of criminal law to define the consent of a victim, instead of focusing on defining the responsibility of a criminal? » he declared.
