The main hearing is scheduled to begin on September 3rd, as the Braunschweig regional court announced. The 16th Economic Criminal Chamber is currently planning 89 appointments until September 2025. The proceedings against the former VW boss will involve suspicion of fraud, false statements and market manipulation, among other charges. The diesel affair at Volkswagen was exposed in September 2015 and cost Winterkorns the executive chair at the car manufacturer.
