Walid Daqqa, 62, a Palestinian of Israeli nationality died on Sunday at Shamir Medical Center, southeast of Tel Aviv. He was tried for his membership in an armed cell of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) responsible for the kidnapping and murder of an Israeli soldier in 1984.

Sentenced to life in prison, his sentence was commuted to 37 years in prison. In 2018, the courts sentenced him to two additional years for trying to bring cell phones into detention, and his release was postponed until March 2025.
