Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi assured his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba that China “does not sell lethal weapons” to Russia. Despite the conflict, China remains a very important trade and diplomatic partner of Russia.

Both countries share the common ambition of counterbalancing Western influence on the international stage. The Asian giant has sometimes been suspected, particularly on the American side, of supplying the Russian army in Ukraine with materials, equipment and even weapons.
