More and more French people regularly seek solitude, according to an Ifop study. The journalist Vincent Cocquebert sees this as a deviation from the promise according to which one could be master of one's existence.

For a majority of French people (58%), solitude is a desired situation. In total, 9% of people are in “objective solitude” and 13% of the population believes the population of France believes the same. A poor individual in a rich country will feel this discrepancy, generating injustice and anger.
