The Allgäu has been suffering from the consequences of the climate crisis for years. Ever warmer temperatures and less snow in winter have long been observed in our region.

Raised bogs are drying up and rare animal species are disappearing. People are already fleeing extreme climate events, such as droughts. By 2050 there will be 280 million climate refugees. We can already see how farmers in Spain are having to give up their businesses due to extreme heat and lack of water. Less rainfall will cause groundwater to decline, responsible for handling liquid goods. The tiger mosquito is increasingly found in our regions. The number of mild winters of winter will decrease. Less snowfall, favored by the ice albedo effect, is responsible for the decline of the black spleen fern. Considering the coming winters, forecasts predict that the number of black eye ferns will also decrease in the AllgÄu. We are confronted with increasingly extreme weather events. Stronger hurricanes, more powerful thunderstorms, hailstorms and extreme temperature changes, as was the case last week.
