When does the brain grow up? Research provides insights. Neuropsychology looks for the answer to this question in the human brain.

The volume of gray matter increases significantly until the age of six, after which this growth stagnates. During puberty, the gray matter actually shrinks slightly. The prefrontal cortex is fully developed by age 25 and influences, among other things, planning, thinking and processing complex information as well as anticipating consequences. The age of mid-25 is repeatedly cited in research as a point in time at which many developmental processes in the brain are completed.
