Year of the Dragon curbs Taiwan's population decline. In 2023, Taiwan recorded 13,571 births and 20,536 deaths for 23.5 million inhabitants.

The population is in sharp decline. However, this year 2024 marks the beginning of the Year of the dragon in the lunar calendar. The dragon is the only mythical animal of the twelve animals of the Chinese calendar. This is why the year has special significance for many Asians, especially the Chinese and Vietnamese. Children born in this year are considered more promising than others.
