The Social Democrats of Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte have been in power for almost 80 years. The Greens, who govern with the SPD, come to 11.3 percent in the two-city state of Bremen and Bremerhaven.
The Left Party, as the third coalition partner, achieved 10.9 percent. The local right-wing populist movement Citizens in Anger (BiW) improved very strongly to 9.5 percent.. The provisional official final result is not expected until Wednesday.
