Alexander Ceferin announces he will not stand for re-election in 2027. The president of UEFA approved a rule that allowed him to face a fourth term.

The controversial amendment had created a schism in UEFA and a barrage of criticism of Ceferin. The director of football, former Croatian player Zvomiro Boban, resigned last week for disagreeing with the statutory change. The new approved statutory rule no longer counts his first two and a half years in the presidency as a mandate, so Cefer in would not exceed the three mandates stipulated as a limit.
