Huelva badminton player Carolina Marín, 30, was proclaimed European champion this Sunday in the German city of Saarbrücken. The Huelva native defeats the Scottish Kirsty Gilmour in the final by 21-11 and 21-18.

This was the fourth time that both faced each other in a final for the highest continental title after La Roche-sur-Yon 2016, Kolding 2017 and Madrid 2022. In all of them Marín won, who had also won the winding against other different rivals in Kazan 2014, HuelVA 2018 and kyiv 2021. In addition to his seven European championships, Marín also won gold at last year's European Games. The Spanish woman expands a record that, along with her seven European titles, also includes an Olympic gold in Rio 2016, four world championships, a gold in the European Games and numerous international tournaments. All this despite suffering two serious injuries. The 30-year-old has her mind set on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
