Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title for the 11th consecutive time. Borussia Dortmund came into the final round in Germany knowing that a home victory over Mainz would secure their first title in 11 years.
Dortmund only finished a painful 2-2 after falling behind 2-0 in the 24th minute, and the championship went to Bavaria for the first time since 1998. Bayern won their 33rd title in the most non-Bayern way possible. And not only because of what happened on the pitch, but also and mainly because of the problems that existed behind the scenes.
