Wout van Aert suffered fractures to his collarbone, sternum and several ribs after his terrible fall in Across Flanders ten days ago. The Belgian also suffers from a contusion to a lung, his team said on Friday.

A scan will take place in a few weeks to determine the extent of the injury. Van Aert's teammate and leader in the stage races, Jonas Vingegaard, would prefer to see him on the Tour de France which he had initially given up this year.
