Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard suffers from a pneumothorax and a pulmonary contusion. The 27-year-old double winner of the Tour de France already had fractures to the clavicle and ribs already diagnosed.
Remco Evenepoel, the other major victim, also suffered a fracture to his collarbone and right shoulder blade. Eight runners were injured in the spectacular fall Thursday at the Tour of the Basque Country. The fall comes on top of a series of dramatic crashes this spring in cycling races.
