Dani Alves has repaid the 150,000 euros loaned to him by Neymar's father to pay for his defense, his lawyer announced on Wednesday. The former Brazilian international was convicted in Spain of rape in January.

He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, but released on conditional release in March. The ex-FC Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain star was found guilty of raping a woman in the toilets of a Barcelona nightclub at the end of 2022, upon his return from the European Cup world in Qatar. The father of Brazilian national team star Neymar Santos said in January that he had financially helped Alves, who was not convicted at the time, a move that sparked widespread criticism in Brazil. The 40-year-old was released on March 25 from the prison where he had been held since late January 2023 after posting bail. A Barcelona court on Wednesday rejected appeals from the prosecution and the civil party against the footballer's release.
