Fernando Alonso has extended his contract at least until the end of 2026 with Aston Martin. The announcement comes as the 42-year-old Spanish veteran was at the center of rumors that he was leaving to join other teams, such as reigning world champion Red Bull and eight-time champion Mercedes.

Double 2005-2006 Formula 1 world champion Alonso has been at Aston Martin since 2023. The Spaniard's contract was due to expire in 2024, but he has extended it until 2026, putting an end to rumors of his departure. The new technical regulation and the arrival of Honda as engine supplier for Aston Martin will mark the start of a new era for the F1 team in 2015. The team will be led by Mike Krack, who has been in charge of the team since 2010. The two-time F1 world champion has won the title three times in his 20-year career, most recently in 2012. He has also finished second in the constructors' championship three times.
