Joshua Cavallo, one of the first professional footballers to come out, is engaged. The Australian became, in October 2021, the first pro player in activity for more than thirty years to publicly announce his homosexuality.
Cavallo proposed on the lawn of Coopers Stadium, the stadium which hosts the Adelaide United club. “I’m starting this year with my fiancé,” he shared on social media. ‘You have provided a safe space in football, one that I never in my dreams thought could ever be possible,’ he said.
