Olympics on the Seine? Paris is fighting against polluted water. If the plan succeeds, the river would likely be the most significant legacy of the 2024 Summer Games for many Parisians.

The state has invested around 1.4 billion euros to clean the river. Around 30,000 households upstream discharge their wastewater directly into the Marne or Seine. A severe storm shortly before the triathlon or the open water swimming, both of which are scheduled to start at the magnificent Pont d'Alexandre bridge, could prevent this.
